Firewire Problem on an Asus A8nSLI Premium

My system is an AMD 4800 Dual, Asus A8n SLI Premium in a Coolermaster Praetorian case running Win XP Pro fully updated. I recently tried to hookup an Epson 1800 printer on the firewire port on the motherboard and found it does not work. Tried the firewire front port from the case and same results. Checked device manager and both ports are listed with no conflicts. I have an IPOD which I tried and both ports powered on the IPOD but the device is not recognized in windows. I have an Audigy 2 sound card with the firewire port which does work and both devices are recognized in windows. The bios shows that Firewire is enabled. What I have done so far is updated the NVIDIA chipset drivers to 6.65, removed the ports in device manager and rebooted, removed the Audigy card. Same results for everything so far. Devices are recognized and will provide power to a device but it will not show in Windows. I have not upgraded the Asus bios yet. Any ideas as to what to do next would be appreciated.
