Firewire Port - Case Mod question

Sorry, I posted this in Tech and it sank like the Titanic. Can someone give me a definitive answer. Rubber washers, no washers and right into case. LMK>

Sort of a case mod question here. I have a P4P800 Mobo and it comes with the firewire add on port. It's not a card just an internal port. Can I remove the PCI slot cover (that the port sits in), drill a hole in the top of my case and just screw the port to the front/top of my case for easy access. I'm tire of getting in behind my case every time I go to transfer DV. I was thinking that I might use rubber washers on both sides or even a rubber seal so as to be safe from shorting, etc. Anyone know if this will work ok? Thanks.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as the cable that it uses to connect to the mobo is long enough. Look at the way the PCI slot item mates to it and use that as a guide for mounting it where you want it. Of course, it would be easier if your case had a FireWire port in front, like many do these days.

Thanks.

Rubber washers, no washers and right into case? How much insulation is there when the case has front ports?
