FireWire PCMCIA card wont work on my laptop!

Bought this firewire pcmcia card from newegg.com Newegg.com link



USB IEEE 1394 2 Port Hi-Speed Card Bus PCMCIA for PC or Mac. The transfer rate are 400Mbit/sec, and very useful for DV, MO, HDD?etc, and some other devices with 1394 interface.

I connected an external firewire casing with a 48x LITEON CD-R... all to my laptop DELL LATITUDE C600

The card wont work.. has a big exclamation mark saying that the device is not availble.... tried again few hours later, the device is recognized but now there is memory conflict everywhere... IM SO MAD

SHould i just get myself a expensive name brand pcmcia card?? like adaptec or soemthing... sigh.. just was trying to save money... help!

Sounds like you may be trying to use a 32 bit Cardbus PCMCIA card in a 16 bit slot. What year is your laptop?

Oh no... TYPE II not compatible with my laptop?
This laptop is only 1.5 yrs old... got it from my school last yr.. july of 2001 it is Dell Lattitude C600 model.... it should support TYPE for sure... this is the spec off the dell.com for my latptop

I'd try trying it ina friend's laptop, before you declare it non functional. If it is nonfunctional, RMA it. If it isn't nonfunctional, why not call their techsupport line (If they have one) and ask them what the memory conflcits and such, mean? Or maybe, even call the people that made your laptop, and see if they can help you.

Do you have trouble with any other PCMCIA cards? (Test both slots?). Did you call 1-800-HLP-DELL ?
