Firewire PCI card will not let me computer power down

Finally found a Firewire card that works with my sound card fine but my computer on the other hand will not shut down.

Or rather it will, but immediately starts up again. I can hit the power switch all day and it just keeps firing up. Eventually I just have to shut it off using the PSU switch on the back. Same thing with sleep it just wakes right up.

Also when I installed the card, the computer powered up the moment I stuck it in there.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Check you BIOS for setting regarding Wake-on-LAN. Many systems treat a Firewire card as a Network connection port. Maybe that new "network port" activity is being used to "wake" your computer because of activity there.

That is bad. That means that you installed the card with power applied to your motherboard. When installing anything into your PC, you MUST unplug the power cord, otherwise, standby power is still running to your motherboard, and you can DAMAGE your motherboard by doing so.

No doubt, that's what's happened here, and that's why your computer's ATX power-on circuit is not functioning correctly anymore.

Does the Firewire card have a VIA chipset? I have one that does the exact thing.

If you Right-click My Computer then System Properties => Advanced => Settings => uncheck Automatically Restart. Click OK wherever needed.

That may or may not fix it. Basically what's happening is your computer is crashing right before shutdown and it's causing the computer to reboot. There may be some conflicts between certain Firewire chipsets (VIA, TI, Oxford, etc) and Intel system chipsets but that's largely hit or miss.
