Firewire not working!!!

Guys,

Got hours of video to capture and edit, and for some wierd reason the firewire on my pc just doesn't work!!! I've tried 3 different firewire cards, 3 different cables, nothing!!! The silly thing is, I've capture video thru firewire on this cam before, just on another PC. I've tried everything i know. Anyone got any suggestions?

what software are you using to capture? I use WinDV to get video from my Sony DVCam, it can take some fiddling to get everything right.

are you getting an error message of some sort?

No errors. Just no feed. Im using adobe premiere 7 Pro. It just tells me the firewire is offline.
I've tried using ulead videostudio too. same thing.

Sounds like you have a hardware problem. Have you tried your Firewire cards in a different slot? What does Device Manager say?

Have tried the 3 diff cards on 2 diff slots. Still nothing. They cards install fine, they appear in device manager and network connections. Could it be the dv port on the camcorder.

You should determine if the problem is in the computer or the camera. Try a different Firewire device (powered) to see if the computer port is OK.

Then try the camera on a different computer.

Also - you should have the camera connected to A/C when doing this, using the camera's A/C adapter. The laptop firewire port is 4 wire - unpowered, and the camera's battery may not be sufficient.
