Firewire not showing in "My Computer"

Recently built a new computer. Thought I was all done until I plugged in some external firewire drives. They do not show up in "My Computer". I have several Firewire PCI cards and one that came with the MOBO for the integrated firewire:

a 3-Port PCI card from Firewire.com
1-port on the Soundblaster Audigy Platinum 2
1-port on a Canopus ADVC-1394 Analog/Digital capture PCI
1-port on a Gigabyte device that connects to the built-n Firewire on the mobo.

I have tried several hard drives, and a few Compact Flash readers. None of them show in My Computer. I uninstalled all of them, and tried installing one at a time, each time checking the the connection, but all with the same results.

I have no devices flagged as problems in Device Manager. In fact, when I connect a hard drive, your can see it install successfully in Device Manager and the drive shows in Device Manager under "Disks", but... nothing in "My Computer". I am pretty confident I have the drivers correct, so I am assuming a Windows problem.

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Config:
Windows XP Pro SP1
Gigabyte 8KNXP Mobo
Intel 3.0c P4 processor
2 Gig of Corsair DDR400 memory (512 MB sticks A 4)
Hard drives - 120 GB connected to IDE1. 500 GB connceted to SilImage ATA PCI card, 70 GB of 10K raptor raid 0 connected to SATA on mobo.

Are these drives hard drives ?
If so are they formatted at all ?
If not then right click "my computer" and select "manage" from the menu, then select "disk management" and see if your drives appear.
