Network is as follows:
802.11g router, 4 computers with WIFI cards communicating w/router (router -> internet)
However, two of my computers (the ones in my room) are more interdependent. I have my docs, favorites, and storage on one computer that the other constantly accesses. the wireless, while functional, isn't too quick for these type of things (large transfers, accessing media, etc). I was thinking of linking these 2 computers together with firewire, but leaving the wifi there to provide outside internet to them (so I don't have to set up Internet sharing on my main system so the storage computer can get out if needed). Anyhow, when setting favorites, my docs, etc... how would I specify that I want it to access the other computer via the firewire link and not the wireless link? Effectively they'd be linked together two ways and I am not sure how to specify which one to access.

If I need to better explain I can try...

Have you tried this yet? The IPs that the firewire cards will have will be/should be on a totally different IP range than your normal internal wireless network. That way, just set up your shortcuts to go to the firewire IP of the storage computer and leave your wireless/normal internet connections alone.

Accessing the machines by \\name might have issues but \\IP should work fine. Now if you want them all to be in the same range you will likely need to play with the metric/cost of each card and the routing tables to force all traffic destined for the storage computer's IP to go through a certain NIC.
