what is the difference between 6 and 4 pins ?

i have this camera i wanna transfer video to my comp using a firewire
the camera has a 4 pin jack and the computer has 6 and 4 pins

is 6 or 4 better for transfering Video?

Right - the data uses the same 4 channels. The extra 2 are for power. Camera to computer requires no power. But computer to a CD/RW burner rquires power. You use the 4 pin cable and an external brick in that case. I have external 1394 drives - and they use 6 pins because they require power with no external brick.
