Firewire harddrive disconnecting

Hello,

I am having a problem with my firewire harddrives. I bought an external firewire / usb 2.0 case for my Western Digital 30gig HD. When transfering files to it, it always seems to disconnect. I am using the firewire port on the Sound Blaster Audigy MP3. Is it the firewire port or the external case? I ran a scan disk on the hard drive and it didnt come up with any problems. it seems to only have problems when transfering files.

Here are the system specs

Intel Pentium III 600mhz overclocked to 866mhz (yes i know i should upgrade)
384mb PC133 SDRAM w/ ECC
MSI Geforce 4 4400 w/ 128 ram
Promise IDE Raid Card
Soundblaster Audigy MP3
Windows XP Pro

Thank You

My hunch is that the problem is the Audigy 1394 port - not really intended for general purpose Firewire use. It was put there for connecting audio-visual devices. Is it a 6-wire or 4-wire port? For reliable data flow, you really need a 6 wire, or else the target drive has to have its own power source. I find the best solution is a good combo USB 2/Firewire PCI card.

its the firewire port that uses the big cable. im guessing 6 pin. the hard drive cases i have, use thier own power supply. i have 2 of them connected but only 1 fails all the time.
