I just did a search and didnt really find much so i'm askin for some advice. I'm gonna get the pinnicale studio software and try to edit some video from my vacation. I've got a few hours of miniDV to be transfered. I'm just wondering are there any cards that have problems with the Pinnicale software?
Is pinnicale the best software to be using?
Are there any cards that are better than others?

So i've got an XP1800, 512mb, Nforce, 2 wd 80gigers. I think it should be sufficient for capturing and editing video, no? if not what else would i need to begining editing.

thanks
Smokey

IMO, FireWire cards are all pretty much the same. I use Adobe Premiere 6. Captures miniDV thru firewire very well. I've used Pinnacle's stuff and I definitely prefer Premiere, though it is slightly less user-friendly.

Your system sounds fine for editing. Of course, you'll prolly have to do multiple captures... your available HD space prolly isn't enough for a few hours of raw AVI.
My system's a 1700+ w/ 1 gb RAM and it works wonderfully.

If you're editing miniDV tapes, each hour of DV video will take up about 13GB, so one of your 80GB drives will hold around 6 hours of footage.

He may need more than that if he adds transitions, music, title, etc. It'll eat up a lot of HD space. Plus, I would recommend using another HD for the system files and use the 2x80giger just for video.

That's assuming one of his 80 GB HDs is almost completely empty...
