Firewire file transfers

I would like to use the Firewire ports on my PC and laptop to transfer files - The PC is Win2000 and the laptop WinXP. As usual as cheaply as possible.

Has anybody used a program which comes with a Digicam perhaps to set up the transfers?
 
If memory serves Windows is capable of a direct cable network connection built-in. Just run the home networking wizard and select Direct Cable Connection.
