firewire enclosures - powered 6 pin port?

Hey all,

I have 2 different firewire enclosures - both using the oxford chipset. Both of them have external power supplies and also have an additional 1394 port on the rear to hook up other firewire equipment.

I'm running them off of a non powered pcmcia cardbus firewire card - I realize that these don't send power to 1394 devices plugged into it, but... since the drives themselves are self powered and have a 6 pin 1394 port (which is supposed to send power), why won't my flash card reader work when plugged into the extra ports of the drives?

Anyone have an enclosure with a 6 pin extra port that does supply power to devices plugged into it?

All my CD/RW burners are Firewire - and they have their own power bricks. I connect to the 4-pin 1394 port on my laptop and it works perfectly that way.

The burners in turn also have a 6-pin port, and I have connected another external HDD enclosure to it, and no problems there.

The PCMCIA port adds another layer, but it should work OK. Try it in another PCMCIA slot.

My media card readers are PCMCIA or USB 2 - but not 1394.
