FireWire card to port on case, need header cable!

OK, here?s the deal:

I?ve got an Antec PlusView1000AMG case with front USB and FireWire ports. My Tyan S2668ANR dual Xeon motherboard has no onboard FireWire. I want to get a FireWire card that has 2 or 3 external ports and at least 1 internal port. I also want to use this front mounted port on my case. The problem is hooking it up!

The FireWire port has a 1x6 header cable on one side, and 6 single x1 headers on the other side (to hook up to a motherboard). I can?t find a FireWire card that has headers for an internal port that I could hook this cable up to, and I can?t find a cable that converts a FireWire plug down to 1x6 or 6 individual x1 headers that I can hook up to the front port. If I could find either of these solutions, I?d be all set!!! I?ve looked all over Directron.com and every other OEM site I can think of. Spent hours on Google.com. I?m exhausted!

Any ideas?!

Hey Thorin,

Yah, I have a couple of those cases as well. Just as good, just a tad smaller. :)

Good article and review, doesn't help me though. I already know the pin-outs. What I need is a way to hook that port up to a port on a FireWire card. I could make a cable of course, but when you are building 100 workstations, that doesn't sound like much fun. I don't want to take a week making cables. I'd much rather buy them somewhere, or find a FireWire card with headers instead of an internal port! ;-)

Something like this?

Ok I lied .... I just re-read your post. Are you trying to go from a regular external FW connection to the front connector on the case? Or from a internal FW card header to a case header? Or from an internal card header to the cable that's already mounted on the case's front port(s)?

Well, that cable is essentially what I already have that came with the Antec case. Or at least it?s very similar.

So far, the FW cards I?ve seen with an internal connector do not offer headers, only an actual external port, mounted internally. Why? I have no idea!!!

So, I either need to find a FW card with headers instead of a port to plug this existing cable into, OR, I need to find a cable that has an actual FW plug to match the ?internal? ports that these FW cards have and ends in headers that I can plug into my case. Make any sense? If that cable you posted had an actual FW plug on one end, I could make it work and replace the cable I have. OR, if I could find a FW card with headers instead of a port, I could make my existing cable work.

I dunno if it's an option but the Audigy OEM that I got for my brother has 1 external port and an internal header. But that would only give you 2 FW ports total and you had originally said 2 or 3 + 1.

Actually, I had thought of that! An OEM Audigy (original) is now as cheap as a good FW card. It would be overkill to try to sell as these video editing machines don't even use onboard sound. They have an $2,000 DPS Velocity video editing board that handles all the sound. Installing another sound card just for FW doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a marketing point of view to my customers... ;-)

From a tech point of view though, hey, it would work! Heh...
