firewire card issues

I just installed a firewire card for my new scanner, but ever since then, my comp has decided that the firewire card is also my network card. (I think that it can also serve as one, but I don't want to use it). I tried to disable it in network hardware profiles, but it is still going. HALP.

I'm guessing your running Xp? Xp will indeed create a network card entry for the Firewire (you can network machines this way). You should be able to right click and select disable to turn it off (that sounds like what you mentioned doing tho). Is it causing any problems, I have it on my laptop system and it has caused no issues since it isn't actually connected to another network.

I have Firewire on all 3 computers, and XP Pro does treat it as a NIC. However, it is not used as such, so that really doesn't affect anything. You are still free to designate which "nic" is the real network one. The rest just go along for the ride. That is done because it is possible to create a Firewire network link.
