Hi there,
I currently need to add another hardrive to my system. I in theory have 2 more SATA channels in my board not used but I read they are not locked at the normal speed. Since my system is overclocked, I would think that if I installed a new drive there it would cause some issues. Now I guess I could add instead an IDE drive or maybe an SATA controller card but honestly I would love to keep the hardrive outside... heat.. ect. Now I have found a load of drive enclosures that are USB2 or firewire but handy one IDE Drives. My question is, first of all would I suffer a major performance hit if I do get one of these outside drive enclosures and then stick in say a 300GB IDE drive and go USB2 or firewire? I am just using it for storage. Are there any other suggestions?
Are there SATA controllers that have the connector on the OUTSIDE of the card so I can hook up say a drive enclosure that is SATA to SATA (if I can find one that is)? so I would not have to open up a slot in my case? Just trying to figure out what my best way to go at this is.
Thanks
Robert
