Firewire add-on cards

Hi All and Happy Holidays,
I'm looking for an add-on Firewire PCI card and am wondering if there is any one "best" brand? It seems like prices vary from $15-$50 and most if not all have Via chips?
Any tips or suggestions welcome,
TIA,
Mike G

ATI makes a good one and so does Adaptec. But depending on your needs a sound card upgrade to an Audigy might fit the bill and kill two birds with one stone. I've read about alot of people using the Audigy 1394 port for FW Networking, Dumping video from a camcorder, connecting external storage devices, etc....

Thanks, I'm all set AFA my soundcard goes, just want the FW card. I'll look for the ones you suggested.

Just buy one that says it's OHCI compliant (that means it follows standard FW protocols) and you can never go wrong by choosing one w/the TI (Texas Instruments) chipset.

I would suggest getting a Firewire/USB2.0 combo card if your rig doesn't have USB2.0...DLink and Adaptec have them and NEC chips are good too.
