Firewire add-on cards

Unless we get some mid-range C2D boards soon with firewire, I'm going to have to get an add-on firewire card, preferably PCI-E. My question is, do they usually include internal headers, like you'd find on some motherboards? Or do they only offer external ports? I'd really like to utilize the front connection on my Praetorian.

It's hard to tell by looking at product descriptions on newegg, etc. Some of them say "1 internal port" but I can't see any plugs on the card in pictures. thanks

Right - most of the pictures are too small to tell. This one shows a straight 5 pin-header for internal. I have seen some with 6 pin headers. What does your case require?

I don't know why most cards don't have a header connector for one or more of the ports. Seems like an obvious thing to me.

http://www.frontx.com/cpx509.html - but this is an adapter cable. My FW card has an internal standard connector so that cable is what I have to use to connect my front panel with.

Agree! But, Zepper, it seems that the problem is standardization of those headers. 5 pins, 6 pins - etc. Different cases have different front end cable connectors. The internal standard 6-pin cable connector could also be used if the case cable ended in the male 6 pin plug.

Most mobos use the 5x2 (ten) pin headers for FW, card makers should take a hint. But I guess shuffling contacts in a 10-pin shell as needed is not as easy for noobs as it is for me.
