I can't seem to find any that go from Firewire to USB or Firewire to Ethernet that can be used for a Macbook.
I can't believe Apple would make this huge of an oversight by removing Firewire totally as an option without there being anything avail to convert it now.
I see firewire PCIExpress cards, but ....hey they didn't include that in the update either.
:(

Unfortunately your SOL. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Firewire to USB :(

While I agree that it is a little lame of them to exclude firewire, to say it was an oversight implies that they didn't think to add it. It would have been a conscious decision to remove firewire, one perhaps dictated by the new logic board design, or the overall case design, I am not sure.

They didn't add it on purpose, to differentiate product lines (especially now that the 13" has a decent video card) and to start killing off Firewire.

I blew $40 on eBay today only to later learn that my great idea wouldn't work...USB->ExpressCard Adapter + Firewire ExpressCard. Apparently the USB adapters only work with USB-based cards, not PCIe-based cards (FW is PCIe-based). Yeargg...gonna have to wait until next year to get the 15", I only budgeted for the 13" assuming it would have LED + FW (duh?) and the 15" is like 2x as expensive with the goodies.

Thanks, Apple. If Hackintosh was better on laptops I'd dump you forever :)

I'm going to go out there and just say that it's something we all need to prepare for. The MacBook is only the first step, but it's obvious that 1394 has lost the peripheral war.

Oh well, hopefully someone will make a USB-Firewire adapter like they did for PC. Otherwise, that Canon HF11 flash-based camcorder is looking pretty good :D

Although I don't know what people with Firewire Audio devices are supposed to do...USB blows for that kind of stuff afaik...

There is Ethernet to Firewire and you probably can get an expresscard with Firewire option. But in today's day and age, you really don't need it for a consumer product. Most consumers have DVD camcorders or HDD camcorders so they can just transfer that stuff over.

Well, USB 3.0 isn't supposed to be pretty kickin. Though it would have been nice if they had kept 1394 around long enough for that to happen. Man, am I ever glad I never bothered to invest in a lot (any really) FireWire capable peripherals.

FireWire > USB : Betamax > VHS

and we know which one became standard, also over licensing and fees.
