I bought a PSG90231 FireWire 9-pin Female to 6-pin Male adapter. This one: http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/70967-adaptor-firewire-9p-f-6p-m-psg90231-pro-signal.html
I connected my FW cables to a hard drive, using the PSG90231 adaptor. My hard drive has both, 6-pin and 9-pin ports so it's a good device to test with. With PSG90231 in between, the computer does not recognize the hard drive.
So I bought a second PSG90231 because I thought the first one is broken. I also bought it from a different seller. No difference, there is no connection. However, if I use very similar setup but change PSG90231 to a 9-pin Male to 6-pin Female adapter (and add a 6-pin cable), everything works without a problem. So 9-Pin Male to 6-pin Female conversion WORKS.
Is there some inherent reason why 9-pin Female to 6-pin Male doesn't work at all or what is going on here?
Why would they sell that adaptor if it doesn't work. Two bad units from different shops sounds too unlikely. My cables and devices work with 100 % certainty, tested.
