Was just wondering about firewire..

is the small one 4 pin? IEEE1934b

big one 6 pin? IEEE1934a

so what's 9pin? I saw a 9pin cable on newegg somewhere.

Also, if i have a camcorder that has the 4pin firewire, and my computer has the 6 pin, I should still be OK with a 4 to 6pin cable?

On a side note, does anyone else find it frustrating that online stores never seem to specify which firewire they have?

4 pin is firewire but without the power pins, thus devices must be self powered. 1394a

6 pin is powered, that is the firewire powers the device. It is the same speeds as the 4 pin, 400mbps. 1394a

9 pin is firewire 2. Basically it is 800mbps. I believe this one is 1394b. (I thought it was 8 pin, but it might be 9)

I think you should be fine with the 4 pin to 6 pin. Not sure since i have never used a 4 pin firewire device.

Homer's right, you'll be fine with a 4pin to 6pin.
