Firewall Recommendations Needed Pls.

Hi,

Need suggestions as to what software firewall I should install on XP Home Edition SP3.

Currently using Avast Free edition and SAS.

Also it's OT but I couldn't find the search function since AT changed forum format...

Thanks!

I really like Zone alarm. They were doing a 3 user free thing for a while there and I installed it on my laptop still running xp sp3.

Thanks for your replies.

So far I've narrowed it down to Comodo, OA, PCTools and Outpost.

I've read some threads in the Avast forums about Comodo not playing nice with Avast but I'll still check it out..

Also I know that adding a software fiewall will add overhead but how much impact will this have on pings in online games? By a few milliseconds or is it significant enough?

I also visited the forums on all the firewalls mentioned and it seems that there seems to be a common issue with internet access dying (this is probably due to some misconfigured setting though).

I've been using Online Armor since 2007 and except for a few insignificant conflicts it's done it's job well. It's come along way since 2007 and it's now easier to use.

I can't comment on how it works with online games because I don't game online. I can say that it installs and uninstalls cleanly if you want to give it a try.

Does that have anything to do with the firewall?
Yes! People should take the developers reputation of security programs seriously. When it comes to security trust is everything. How can you trust a company that is assisting malware authors?

That's all I'm going to say on the subject as it's been discussed thoroughly on other forums. Use your favorite search engine if you want to read more.

Comodo for me is a no-no...I installed it once and it gave me all sorts of problems. PCTools Firewall is okay, but I use Norton 360 on a Vista. Vista firewall, upon a leak test from grc, came back 'leaky'. Probably could have change a few rules, but I went on and did myself a favor and purchased a firewall that would do the job for me!

i don't see how you could still consider comodo after reading the link i posted. i would not touch that software with a 10ft pole.

When I went to the link you provided it stated that the link didn't exist. But thanks for the heads up...

I settled for PCTools Firewall. Really simple to use.

I tried Online Armor but upon rebooting after installation my system just froze. Had to go in safe mode to uninstall.
