So if I already have a router, do I need to install firewall on my computer?

I just installed NAV2005 retail and Keio Firewall Pro.

The router only protects you from traffic coming in from the Internet, if you want protection from potentially malicious tools or things trying to 'phone home' you need a firewall on each Windows machine as well.

Security is a process, not a product. You can't install something and all of a sudden be secure.

Also take into account that if you are fairly careful (keep AV up to date, don't use IE, keep security patches up to date) then having the router SHOULD be enough.

What Nothinman said!

I spent a good deal of last Winter educating myself about PC security, trialing, installing, uninstalling apps for AV, AS, AT and process-control - spending a lot of money for licenses along the way.

I've been absolutely clean for months, but I run:
- Software firewall.
- Real-time resident AV.
- Real-time resident AS.
- Real-time resident AT.
- Browser customized for added security and privacy.
- SpywareBlaster and other site and content blockers.
- Image/restore software with frequent backups - just in case the above fails.

Just Google 'security forums' for a better perspective on 'security'.

Hope this helps!
