I am not sure which board to put this on -- and it is a technical question I need help in answering -- so this is where I an posting.
I need to know if any of you know of a Win2K compatible firewall with incoming and outgoing protection, hopefully something comparable to ZoneAlarm in terms of protection quality -- without the HORRIBLE GAPING BUGS in the program.
ZA disconnects my ADSL after about 24 hours of uptime, and only uninstalling ZA or restarting will fix it. SOMETIMES power cycling the modem does, but either way it doesn't matter to me since I no longer use it.
So now I need a firewall that has good program ID protection(IE, does not let similarly named but different apps access the 'net), does NOT allow outgoing programs to access the net unless given specific permission, and good incoming protection. Of course it also needs to be stable enough to run on my machine without destroying it, but that's all.
Anyway, any good takers out there to help me?

PS. Don't even think of suggesting Norton, ZeroKnowledge Freedom, or McAfee.

I think Sygate Firewall will fit the needs you listed. I have used it well over a year on my Windows based boxes and have had nothing but positive experiences with it. Yet in terms of security I prefer iptables and Slackware on my other home boxes.
