firewall question

NAT firewall (Cable/DSL Router) blocks every thing from coming in, the signal does not even reach the computer. It let in only info that was requested by the computer through a certain port. We call it all ports blocked but the ports are blocked they just do not get any info.

Closed ports by Software Firewall means that Network traffic goes through the Firewall program, and the program (as designed by the programmer) will not let the info get to the port. I.e. metaphorically the ports are closed.

Applications and Game that communicate through few ports may have a problem since the In-Out is at times not carried through the same port, thus blocked by the Firewall.

Open the ports that are necessary for a specific application.

The way to open a port depends on the Router, and or Firewall program. Each manufacture has his own "Shticks" to go about it. Each one has his way of organizing the Menus. You have to read the Manual in order to know how to do it. The term that it is referred to could be Port Mapping, Port Opening, etc. In a Virtual Server.
