Hi,

I am having difficulties networking my laptop and Pc.

I have cable broadband for the pc, which I want to share on the laptop, as well as be able to share files and play lan games.

I have two network cards in the pc, 1 which is used for the broadband.

The 2nd one is for my laptop with connects to it, via a crossover cable.

I can share files and even play lan games with the firewalls turned off. However soon as I turn them on (either one) the connectiong is blocked. I am 99% certain its the firewall. I use nortons 2004 on the pc, and Nortons 2003 on the laptop, and was wondering if anyone new what exactly I have to change to fix this problem.

I am running win2k on pc and xp pro on laptop.

I can post any additional information, and would really appreciate any help.

Thank you🙂

In general you would have a better Network if you would invest $20 in a Cable/DSL Router (or better yet you can get a Wireless Cable/DSL Router for the same price.)

Ignore the prices in the links above. The same or similar hardware can be found for 60%-90% less.

As for the Firewall.

1. Make sure that you insert the local IPs of your computers into the Trusted Zone.

2. In NIS you would find it in the Home Network tab that is part of the Personal Firewall configuration.

Make sure that all the ports that are necessary for external communication are opened.
