Firewall and Webserver Problems for RC5 Proxy!

Ok, let's see. Previously, ZoneAlarm wouldn't allow my clients to connect through port 2064. Setting the ports to allow and block manually didn't work either. Unless i set the security to meduim which is practically nothing, my proxy doesn't work.

So i installed BlackIce Defender instead. At cautious level, it works. BUT now with my webserver up, it doesn't allow traffic through.

Now, what am i to do? Add to the fact that i've no idea what URL the site to the outside...hmm.

Jinsonxu,
I use ZoneAlarm at home, and my PC has no problems fetching and flushing through the firewall, and I have security set to High for both Local and Internet. I did have to set everything on, I allow Local, Internet, Local Server, Internet Server, and also I allow the distributed.net client to pass-lock also. (It's the only thing allowed to pass the lock 🙂).

In my INI file, I use the DNS name of the proxyserver and do not specify a particular port.

What you might try with ZoneAlarm is to make sure there is only ONE entry in the programs list, then delete the distributed.net, do a fetch or flush, and respond to the ZoneAlarm prompt to allow it to pass through, and be a server. Then go into the programs list and set everything on for the distributed.net client.

I have never used BlackIce, so I can't help you there.

Good luck! 😀

Wow! Thanks!

Now, my next problem concerns the Webserver. Do you happen to use one? If so, which one do you use?

Also, how do i delete off some of the programs in the programs list?

EDIT: I got it, right click...hehe

The problem now lies with the Webserver. I'm on WinMe, Not on Win2K, so i'm not able to run IIS, nor Apache which isn't stable on Win32.

Am trying out AnalogX at the moment but it appears to only allow 1 page to be hosted at a time. How the world am i going to host the Stats?

Jinsonxu,
Sorry, can't help with the Webserver questions. I know there are some good experts around here that can though! 🙂

Ok, what's the DNS of Mika's proxy? Cause ZoneAlarm still disallows the proxy from accessing Mika's even though i've set it to pass for 2064-3100, UDP Port 67 and TCP porst 8000 and 8080.

NO go though.

Ray, There's a little link under the reply button called "symbols" that might help you with some HTML functionabity. :Q <hehe>

Ok, managed to connect to Mika's under high security in ZA. But had to enable passthrough for a whole bunch of ports though.

Now for the webserver.....anyone?

Just noticed this thread after I replied to your e-mail. What problems are you having? Just wondering which to run? I use Sambar, it's an excellent freeware Windows webserver.

Ok, Two-face figured that my htmlroot was wrong. Now everything appears to be working EXCEPT that the script doesn't work when run normally. So i tried to debug which went great!

Completed all tasks, i ddin't see any error, either there wasn't any or it went too fast for me. But trying the normal script doesn't work. Only debug. Now does that sound weird?

UPDATE: Tried the command in a dos window. It worked. But clicking on the script doesn't work.

This's the command i run. It also works for task scheduler
C:\Perl\bin\Perl.exe -w E:\HZRC5Proxy\ppstats-rc5-7.1\ppstats-rc5-7.1.pl

Solved it!!!!

WINME wasn't configured on default to use Perl Command Interpreter for Perl scripts. Cause i used Notepad to open it up earlier in the afternoon.

Now i have another question. See, my output buffers limit are set at 500 WU. But today i changed it to 100 and then one transaction came flushing more than a hundred WUs. So the buffer limit was reached and then the proxy attempted to connect to Mika's but got a socket error.

In the end, i had to restart the proxy before the flush could work.

For ZoneAlarm at High Security, i set the proxy client to be allowed every server there was and it allows me to connect to Mika's.

But my clients cannot connect to the proxy. And the medium setting seems insecure.

So all my problems are now ironed out except for the relative insecurity of ZoneAlarmPro on Medium security.
