OK I've finally decided to try out firefox due to all of the hype. It seems pretty good so far. But I defaintely don't like how bookmarks are sorted. I have several bookmarks in subfolders like "Sports, Finance, News, etc" but I also have several free standing bookmarks for individual sites. In IE it would sort all of the subfolders first and then sort the remaining free standing bookmarks afterwards. I can't seem to simlulate this with firefox.

So I end up with an annoying list of bookmarks that look somthing like this:

Sports <SUBFOLDER>
Tatoo.com
Tweaking <SUBFOLDER>
underground.net
Video Editting <SUBFOLDER>


What I'd like is:

Sports <SUBFOLDER>
Tweaking <SUBFOLDER>
Video Editting <SUBFOLDER>
Tatoo.com
underground.net

Any way to accomplish this?

what about right click and sort by name?

Click and drag in the right column.

Click on Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks and change it to the way you like. It'll do it for you if you right click and sort by name too.

I've gotten my bookmarks *menu* to look mostly like the Favorites in IE. However, I'd really like to use the Bookmarks *sidebar* in the same manner, but its sorting doesn't mimick the bookmarks menu at all.

My bookmarks side bar looks exactly like how I sort it in the bookmarks manager. Are you talking about the toolbar or the menu at the top of the window?

I'm talking about the sidebar (Vieww -> Sidebars -> Bookmarks). It seems to not put folders at the top and intermingles them alphabetically with single bookmarks. I'd prefer to have folders at the top with individual bookmarks underneath. I've achieved this sorting on the bookmarks menu. I think the desired sorting arrangement is offered by IE when you sort them alphabetically by name.

I know which sidebar you're talking about. Mine looks just like my menu. If I change the ordering from either, it's reflected in both.
