Half curiosity and half question: what browser do people use here? I used firefox for years, then about a year and a half ago switched to chrome because it could sync, was cleaner, and seemed more intuitive.

Then Google revised their privacy policies, and I decided that it was the final straw (I'd been considering it for some time, but it's a huge PITA to switch everything over to a new browser, especially in the middle of a semester) to switch over to Opera. I've always heard great things about Opera, and to be honest I found it a little bit of a pain. Been using it for about a month now, and there are any number of little problems that, finally today, made me throw up my hands and go back to chrome.

Opera never quite seems to get a handle on my bookmarks--it's always putting them in the wrong spot, and it takes way longer to bookmark a page than it should. When I get home, something I bookmarked in the bar on my desktop at school won't be there, or the bar is rearranged.

Plus, it is always blocking me when I click on links in a thread, whether here or somewhere else, and I can't for the life of me get it to stop.

Plus, and this is a huge pain, I can't do anything flash at school (since I don't have admin privileges) in Opera, while chrome never had a problem with it.

I still don't like the idea of using Chrome, but Opera doesn't seem nearly as polished. I'm sure these problems above are ones that could be fixed, but why should it be so difficult to do so? I'm not a complete idiot (really, I promise), but Opera stymies me way more than it should. Sure, it gave me some customizability that Chrome doesn't, but it wasn't worth it to constantly be fixing little things. I figured they would smooth out eventually, but they still haven't. Think I'd going back to chrome.

I use Firefox, too. Only thing I dislike is that sometimes it has memory leaks or memory doesn't seem to be freed after you close tabs which consumed a good amount of it.

I'll give it a look. If it performs just as well, I'd be happy to do it.

Out of curiosity, anyone else who uses Opera having/had any of the problems I mentioned above?

Opera always worked pretty well for me. I'd get the occasional rendering error, or other small issues with web content, but the browser functions themselves worked fine. Opera is my second favorite browser.

Chrome right now. Firefox is a resource hog for some reason.

opera. you can customize it like no other...

i have bookmarks on the top bar (yes the top one where the minimize button, this saves me to use a whole top row and gives more webpage viewing.)

built in javascrip on/off (which i put on the bottom status bar...again, saves entire row for more viewing) allows me to go to shady websites without worries.

built-in spell check

I like the custimization that opera provides. I like being able to block everything with 2 clicks, so there is literally not one single ad anywhere. Yes, adblock plus blocks stuff in firefox, but the custom filter page is annoyingly slow.

But I admit that I have to open things in firefox because it simply refuses to work in opera. Things like buttons and even newegg's homepage. lol, just their homepage doesnt work on opera. So on most computers I just use firefox.

As for chrome? Bleh. Every time it updates it puts a new chrome.dll and whole bunch of other install crap. There ends up being endless bloat for no good reason and I havent bothered testing to see if I could delete it all. Adobe is like that too...

I prefer Chrome, but use Firefox because of Noscript and Adblock (not a fan of the Chrome versions of the addons).

Did you log into Opera Link for bookmark syncing?
http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/link/

I don't understand what you mean when you say it's "blocking you".

Chrome is also the only browser with built in Flash so you won't be able to do that on Firefox or Safari either. Funnily enough the built in flash was causing tons of crashes on youtube that no other browser had maybe a month ago before they put out a patch.

Different strokes for different folks.

I've been using Firefox since it was originally known as Firebird. Then Chrome came out. Chrome is a really great browser but I took some advice here and I'm currently trying Firefox 11. It's snappy, though I love the omnibar (integrated address/search bar) Chrome has.

Opera now and forever, though I make sure I have a backup browser for the occasional page that doesn't work right.

If you're comfortable with Chrome then stick with it. The Google policies apply to when you're logged into your Google account and is true with any browser.

Chrome itself is fine.

Otherwise, I'd personally go with Opera. It's secure, feature packed without the need for extensions even though it has extension support, and fast.

I think if you just type in a search term in the address bar of firefox and hit enter, it will do a search...
