Firefox vs IE (speed)

I've never cared for Firefox in the past, but I downloaded Firefox today figuring that I'd check it out again and see if anything has changed.

The first thing I noticed is how slow things load compared to IE. I was particularly surprised, because I thought FF was supposed to be faster.

At any rate, I ran Speakeasy's speedtest several times and the results are pretty surprising.

With IE, I get:
  • Download Speed: 5007 kbps
  • Upload Speed: 1885 kbps
With FF, I get:
  • Download Speed: 4841 kbps
  • Upload Speed: 966 kbps
Now, the download speed is no big deal. I can run the test over and over and get 150kbps variation. But the upload speed is very surprising... It's consistantly 1/2 what I get with IE.

Any chance I'm missing something here?

Yep a good chance. You have a setting off somewhere in IE or something. My tests are consistently the same speeds.

I have no problem with IE... Firefox is what's slow for me and in those tests.

Even still, now that I think about it... I doubt the upload speed has anything to do with the overall speed difference.

When downloading the pics.bbzzdd.com random page, the delay was waiting for images to load.

Testing the speed with speakeasy myself, I can say I found it odd. IE always showed higher upload too, but the download was always at least 1.5mb/s faster with Opera. IE couldn't get faster than 3.4mbps, while Opera was hitting 5.5mbps.

I wasn't aware it was possible to use different versions of flash on the same computer.

Is Firefox slow or IE reporting incorrect #'s?

Good. You use Opera, right?

IE loads up faster than FF, for sure.

If loading times for the browser actually bother you, there's always the IE shells, Avant Browser & Maxthon.

I like FF because of the extensions & customizability though.

Nothing beats adblock & gestures :)

What does that have anything to do with FF being slower than IE???

What? Why are you using geektalk when you obviously aren't a geek?
