If you have FireFox installed, update to 2.0.0.8 or confirm that your automagic update has arrived 😀 This update fixes some security issues and has some other enhancements: release notes.

For Windows XP / 2000 users, consider trying out the Secunia Personal Software Inspector, an easy-to-use utility that helps you find and fix known security vulnerabilities on your rig  This could mean the difference between a successful exploit and a failed exploit, if you run into the Internet equivalent of a mugger or pickpocket.

I had automatic updates on. Firefox updated but when it restarted, it wouldn't connect to any websites. Originally I thought it had something to do with the network but uTorrent was still chugging along and Internet Explorer connected to everything just fine.

I reinstalled 2.0.0.8, no good. I uninstalled Firefox completely and deleted all the profiles then reinstalled it fresh without any plugins, no go. Then I turned off my AV software, uTorrent, cFosspeed, etc, etc so that there was nothing else running. Still didn't connect.

I'm currently typing this in IE wondering WTF happened. Right now I'm exploring the Mozilla site looking for an older version download but can't find one. Don't know what happened. Seems unique to me too since I've searched google and haven't seen a single other complaint like mine. 🙁

Edit:

I found one post on the Mozilla newsgroups about the same problem. The link someone posted had instructions on how to fix it (remove Firefox from Windows Firewall, have it redetect Firefox) but after following them exactly, Firefox still can't connect. It never detects Firefox trying to access the web and turning off the firewall doesn't help at all (I mentioned earlier I tried this already).

WTF?!?!?!!?

Edit x2:

Fixed it. Even though I have the Kaspersky firewall off and only run the AV protection, apparently it still blocks programs that are on it's firewall list. Deleted Firefox and bam, it's working now.

I updated both pcs to 2.0.0.8 ... one last night and the other just now
Both are working perfectly.

2.0.0.8 was dog slow for me so I went back to 2.0.0.7 and its much better. Perhaps its an extension conflict or something...felt like dialup speeds at best.
