Firefox reset

Firefox seems to have reset on me. It's now as if I just installed it. All my bookmarks and settings are gone. I noticed it after my computer got nudged and the power was cut off via the power supply switch in back while I was working on the computer. Not sure if that's what caused the problem. Ideas on recovering my bookmarks? Thanks.

Check to see if ff created a new profile. If it did, your bookmarks and whatnot would be under the old one.

If firefox is still using the original profile, there may be bookmark backups in the profile directory:

kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder

stop firerfox.exe and click on firefox again. did that work?

this happnes to me all the time, its so friggin annoying. i have to find the back-up bookmarks and restore it.

It won't get your bookmarks back, but it'll prevent you from losing them again 😉

Why not try IE7 RC1? It is now available and free. It is getting excellent reviews from Firefox fanboys. It's free too.

If you ask at the firefox support forums, I'm pretty sure there's a way to get them back. I know it doesn't seem likely but you'd be surprised.

IIRC, Firefox makes regular bookmark backups. They should be in the same folder as your profile (application data/mozilla/whatever)

This is why I always make backups of my bookmarks.

Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Export

the firefox backup extension works pretty well.. backup the entire profile or just parts of it
