not add to that drop down menu but leave that as google but have another search box on another toolbar that i could leave set to wiki? you could do this in opera but after searching all i could find are loads of links to "second search" and outdated referencer to "thinger".

Not sure myself, you need two ?

I usually just use tabs and put other engines on the toolbar.

but I use a second screen extended also I guess, for some things.

i had it in opera and was useful. plus i've got the room for it so why not? saves on clicks.

no, that plugin wont do the trick 🙁 that's the one i mentioned in OP i think

If I'm not mistaken, Firefox's URL bar will use Google and then you could use the search bar for Wikipedia, for example. You could (I think) change the URL search provider in about:config.

not bad, but if i want to add another search bar again for amazon? i added a 2nd toolbar cos i had so many plugins but now after moving a few over so the address bar wasnt about an inch long i have a lot of space left over.

would be nice to have search boxes in there for commonly searched sites. i figure i could fit about 5 in there.

i dont think firefox is that customizable. i was just surprised at going to customize and not seeing an option to throw another search bar in there. just seems like it's something that should be there is all
