So what do you guys think? A possible 3rd contender, or an errant venture that won't go anywhere? More importantly, would you buy it?

Exactly my feelings, too. Some nice thoughts/ideas, but I can't see this ever becoming a major player. The fact that they're targeting low end specs for their release just means they're trying to hit the emerging markets for extremely cheap.

Actually, thinking about this more, I could see this catching on in Europe. I don't know why nor do I have a strong reason, but I could definitely see that happening.

So that means just like the Chromebook, if you're connected to the web sipping data then it's completely useless?

A lot like iOS if you ask me. I think it will be for low budget smart phones though.

I'm just glad to see someone else stepping in. And also I think we'll see Firefox on Android and iOS which is cool because it will be better then chrome IMO.

phones only have to have certain well established features to be acceptable to 95% of the population. its only a short matter of time before firefox implements all those features in an acceptable and stable way. right now theyre selling firefox phones that are low midrange, but for really cheap prices, like $130-200. if carriers switch to non contract models and the outright purchase price of a phone becomes an issue, then firefox could gain some traction. they dont have to sell to iphone and gs4 buyers.
