Firefox or Konqueror

Camino doesnt render certain pages corrctly for me. Lately Ive been using firefox on my iBook and I've liked it thus far.

Firefox runs like a 1 legged dog on crack on my powerbook. Camino works. 🙂

It's all gecko.
 
I voted Konqueror even though I'm more likely to use firefox in kde. I think Konqueror is a better browser overall, but it's just missing a few key features like adblock (coming soon I hear), "view selection source" and it's pop up blocker isn't as good. If konqueror had the community modification environment that firefox has I'm sure it'd be even cooler.

Edit, forgot to state the obvious: these are not operating systems!!

Yea it was slow on my iBook with 512MB of RAM but then I upgraded to 768 and it feels a little faster. I will still keep my eye on Camino once it hits the 1.0 release.

Guess I should get my powerbook fixed so I'll have more ram...

Camino's been pretty stable (except for certain nightly shapshots) for a while now.

Camino seems much faster than the Mozilla suite (Seamonkey) or Firefox, but doesn't work properly if Bonjour is disabled. If there is a way to fix this, I will be using Camino as my primary browser. (Of course, disabling Bonjour causes more problems, e.g. printing, even to local printers, doesn't seem to work)

As for the original question: out of these two, I like FF better, I never liked Konqueror (or KDE for that matter).

If anyone knows a FF extension that enables Seamonkey-style google search (typing the search terms in the address bar, then pressing the down arrow), please let me know.


 
Firefox. Kongueror, I do not like for anything. I wish 1. you could replace kongueror as the file manager (maybe possible, I don't know) and 2. have the window turn into the default web browser when typing an internet address into the address bar (instead of opening in konqueror when typing in konqueror file manager).
 
Depends. In Gnome, I always use Firefox because it's GTK, but in KDE, almost always Konqueror, unless the page isn't getting rendered correctly. It's lacking a few features as mentioned. It's got mouse gestures. The rendering needs to be speeded up. Also, it only works with Gmail in HTML.
 
Camino is faster than Firefox and SeaMonkey because its UI is native - with FF and SM the UI is actually sort of like a web page (it's written in an XML-like language and lots of javascript). Capitalize the "M" in SeaMonkey.
 
Tweaked Firefox (more then just FireTune)...actually go into the about:config and change the pipeling settings and stuff......It works AWSOME. + Session Saver + Ad Block + Tab Preference = Awsome surfing....i love it!

This isn't quite what you're looking for, but you can use the quicksearch bookmarks to do this sort of thing. By default if you type "google search terms" it will google for you. You can modify the bookmark so that you only have to type the 'g' from google (which is what I've done). I find this to be quite fast and convenient. I also have ones like 'gg' which does google but feeling lucky, 'w' for wikipedia search, 'gm' for google maps... I don't use the search bar at all anymore.

Actually I'd be curious to know if this is doable in Konqueror (don't have a machine with kde handy). If not, boo to Konqueror! 😛

Thanks for the hint. I didn't like FF when it was released, so I didn't RTFM, I guess it's time to do that now 🙂
 
If I'm using KDE, I prefer Konqueror, though both have their ups and downs.
Konqueror pros:
Very fast page rendering
The "Save link as.." menu with a file system browser and last saved locations menu is VERY nice, I tend to have like 3-4 locations where I save 95% of my files, making this a very useful feature.
Extensive options in the conf GUI, I can see how it can be too much, but I like it.

FireFox/Mozilla pros(yeah I'll bunch them together since I'm lazy):
I can use them under Linux, and Windows with no problems.
Lots and lots of adons, Adblock, Flashblock, etc etc, damn nice
My online bank works with Mozilla but not Konq.
 
Firefox sucks in terms of saving dls (takes ages to initialise), but it's nice apart from that (and the crashes).
 
For web browsing, Firefox because of its clean UI and useful extensions.
For file management, Konqueror is awesome. I even use it in Gnome because it's so much more capable than anything else I've come across.
