If you've come to wave your cock about why x browser is better then don't bother replying.

How many of you guys think that as far as middle mouse wheel scrolling, Firefox's scroll is slower than IE's?

By default it is, so I compensated by getting the SmoothScroll extension and setting it on turbo.

Fill me in friend of friends.. turbo sounds more like my liking.

Using Firebird .6 - I don't update often (I'm using Thunderbird .1, beyawtch)

Wheel scroll is uncomfortably fast on IE - I only use it when I'm reading long stuff, and it's more comfortable to scroll down 3/4 of a page with firebird. Whenever I need to scroll anything else, I have my "Page down" key

I mistyped slightly, it's actually called the SmoothWheel extension, but its site has instructions on how to use the many settings. (Click the "SmoothWheel configuration" link near the top of the page.)

Well I like it "uncomfortably fast" so I am wondering if there is a way to do that heh.

He ain't kidding about that at least. 😉

The other thing you can do is tell the scroll to skip more lines. (By defalt it scrolls 3, you could change it to, say, 6 lines to double the speed.)

Thanks, I installed it. I am new to firefox, how do I get into the part where I edit stuf within the extension.. not the tools menu.

edit: the skipping more lines is EXACTLY what I want.

That extension does almost exactly what I want, however the autoscroll speed is still slow. Is there an option I am missing within that extension? Anyway, I advise you install that extension if you haven't, it's made a world of difference.

also, the last poll option has more votes than I had originally conceived 😛

Scrolling seems about the same for me.

Although, page loading seems like it may have taken a speed hit. 🙁
at work (PIII-500), also took a speed hit. about 30% slower with FF.

Unfortunately, the extension doesn't have its own options dialog like many others do. Instead, You have to go to the chrome\smoothwheel\content directly and edit the smoothwheel.js file by hand (although it's as simple as changing a 1 digit number).

Now, the easiest way to change the number of lines is to get the Things They Left Out Extension Which creates an option for it. If you want, you can change the number of lines scrolled without the extension by using about:config or editing your user.js file, but that is more painful.

Edit: Oh, and I should say that if you use the SmoothWheel Extension, you should disable the default smooth scrolling to prevent slowdown.

Yeah, I figured that out thanks. Do you know if you can change the speed of the autoscroll?

Does anyone have a scrollbar in their Firefox? In Firebird there was one, as there is in every other browser. What gives?

Not that I know of, although I would think they would tie the number of lines to that of the scroll whell, so changing one would change the other, but I'm not sure. I'll look around and tell you if I find anything.

I've seen this problem. My Firebird installation was nothing more than an unzipped folder in \Program Files, and when I installed Firefox, I didn't have a scrollbar. I then uninstalled it, deleted the Firebird directory and reinstalled Firefox and that gave me a scrollbar in FireFox.

I DL it this morning. I seem to be having problems with links not resolving when they popup in a new window. So far today it's told me about 5 common sites don't exist...

Bingo. ALso, using old themes with the new version causes random problems.
