AT random (probably about 30% of the time) if I close firefox it wont let me reopen it. I have to go to task manager and end task on a process that is stuck in the background.

Has anyone ever experienced this? what is the cause? I had a bunch of extensions, I removed them one by one except for noscript , java quick starter (wtf is that? wont let me remove), .net framework assistant (another wtf, wont let me remove) and vmware remote console plug-in. I know it's not noscript or vmware plugin, but the other two I have no idea how they ended up there. Think it's when I installed .net 3.5.

I'm using Firefox 3.0 with no updates. Should I maybe update? I know there was an issue with an update where it would constantly lock up in middle of typing in a text area, so I disabled updates because of that.

You just going to have to deal with it or wait at least 5 to 10 seconds before reopening firefox. There is no way to fix it.

The more extensions you have the longer it can take to close down firefox and the more memory it uses. You can either (A) not use as many extensions (B) use them and just deal with the problem. Some people have switched browsers though but I don't see why anyone should do that if firefox is a useful browser for you.

I had this issue with Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 (and maybe a few versions before that). The next update after that (I believe it was the 3.5 b99 release?) fixed it - at least for me.

It happens to me even after it's been shut down for long (all night). I'll try to patch up fully and see.

Will noscript work with 3.5? That's the only extension that's really important to me.

It is one of your extensions. Without extensions my firefox always closes instantly. Once I start installing extensions firefox takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds to close before I can reopen it again.

I uninstalled all but noscript (had it before this issue) could it be that I got some left over code from old ones maybe?

Yes delete your firefox profile with all the data files. Then create a new one. If that doesn't work manually delete the firefox profile folder and create a new one.

Well be careful about deleting profiles, take out your bookmarks as well. Everything. Better to use profile manager and just make a new default/empty one http://kb.mozillazine.org/Crea...fox_profile_on_Windows You can have 10 profiles if you like. Files in the profile can also cause "in use" problem http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use A new clean one will fix that. But do look at the known issues with 3rd party programs, especially security stuff or problem wont go away.

New profile does not change plugins - if they are std. ones that should not matter.
