all i do is hear people rave about FF... but when i tried it out, i thought it ran slower than IE, less compatable with some sites, and the tabs were annoying (i wanted the tabs to be like crazy browser i.e. new window=new tab= less clutter at bottom on start menu)

someone explain why it is so good plz

Well first off you can make ff open new windows as tabs. Secondly it is so good because of all the add ons.

lots of useful extensions. (before you opera fanboys start about how opera does everything without extensions - it's not free, end of discussion)

Like others said...tabs and the plugins are great.

And I installed it in my parents' computer, which was always plagued with spyware. A experienced user can use IE and not get drowned with malware, but for casual / regular users FF is effective at lowering the amount of crap that gets into their PCs, as it cannot be hijacked as easily as IE and it doesn't support ActiveX, which is as far as I know a bit problematic in terms of its being exploitable.

Extensions.

for example (some of mine in use) :
Adblock (or for the more adventurous - Adblock Plus w/ whitelisting);
CustomizeGoogle (several google customizations, one being when you use images.google, it gives a link directly to the image)
ImageShack right-click (transload image direct from a site to imageshack)
PDF Download
Tab Mix (customizing tabs including moveable tabs)
IEview (on the occasion you have to switch over to IE)

There are extensions or manually change the about:config settings to help speedup FF.

less compatable with some sites

That's where the open in IE extension comes in handy.

The best reason to use FF is security. No annoying ActiveX controls and Adware/Spyware to worry about. Well it's not fully eliminated, but greatly reduced at least.

My issue is how firefox sometimes spikes the cpu after a certain time. Really noticeable on a laptop since that extra heat kicks the fan on more often. Don't that have problem with ie, and not talking about flash stuff either.

I personally hate tabs. Meh.

tabs in program, tabs in taskbar, there's clutter either way. pick your poison

Oh and btw, why do you think MS put the "group similar taskbar buttons" option in Windows XP? Same concept as tabs in firefox.

dividing up the clutter still makes things easier.
