Firefox is being very odd -fixed-

so I open up firefox today and it takes approx. 45s before starting instead of the usual 5s and there was a lot of HDD activity.

after the page loads I'm confronted with this very odd script-looking text for my address bar, links and menu. Never had this happen before, nor have I changed the font ever.

After doing a virus and spyware scan I can't find anything that might be responsible. Even uninstalled firefox and updated to 1.0.7 from 1.0.6 but same problem.

Anyone know what this is?

View > Character Encoding?

Maybe somehow you changed the default setting of UTF-8?

update - some of my other programs are starting to display this odd text, or nothing at all (Steam games). Hmm... could it be a corrupted font file?

Have you changed anything related to your windows theme of late, looks like you've changed (accident or not) a default font.

nope, nothing that I can think of

guess it's time to do a replacement of the windows font file

fixed it - the font files were orphaned.

a chkdsk /f cleared it up!
