I'm forced to make a new obnoxious topic because the one I was making a long post for got locked in the process. I'm angsty.

In a related experiment. I decided to run a makeshift benchmark with the aid of a Timex stopwatch.

Comparison in the page loading times of Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox.

Both browsers running on...
os[Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (5.1 - 2600)]
cpu[Intel Pentium 4, 2806MHz, 512KB (0% Load)]
mem[Usage: 357/640MB (55.78%) [||||||----]]

Machine was restarted with cleared cache. Each page was loaded contiguously on one browser, machine was restarted with cleared cahce, and the same pages were loaded contiguously on the other.

Versions used...
Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_
Mozilla FireFox 0.9

Network connection...
Type[Local Cable ISP : Millenium Digital Media (Download cap - 350KB/s :: Upload cap - 25KB/s)
Firewall/DHCP[D-Link DI-604 Ethernet Router]

Internet Explorer loaded all 4 pages faster than FireFox on my computer. If nothing else, this justifies my reasoning for using Internet Explorer. You could argue that I used an outdated version of FireFox (I think the newest version is 1.0?), but then I could argue back that with Internet Explorer, I don't have to worry about having to download a new version every other month.

There, just wanted to post it. Lock/flame away. *munches cookie*

My only input in this topic is that one does not have to download new versions of IE, yes, but they do have to download security updates.
Just a counterpoint. Also, your (unconscious perhaps?) bias towards IE may have affected your stopwatch timing. Might not be true, but still a possibility.
