Usually my Win7 64 laptop has a single icon for Firefox in the taskbar. Hovering the cursor over the icon reveals my various Firefox windows that I can choose from. Right now there's a separate icon for each window in the taskbar. Hovering the cursor over any one of them reveals the same set of open windows. What's up with this? I don't see a way to revert to the more sane behavior. Do I have to close Firefox and start all over? I have to think there's a setting somewhere I can change...

Try this:

Control Panel --> Taskbar and Start Menu
Make sure "Taskbar buttons" shows "Always combine, hide labels"

I keep my taskbars set to never combine. It is one of the first things I do on a new install. I regularly run multiple firefox windows, each with multiple tabs. (Videos in the left window, most everything else in the right window.) But I dont see stuff like that. It must be a bug.

Thanks, that led me to it. Precisely, it's:

Control Panel
Taskbar and Start Menu
Customize the Taskbar
Taskbar Buttons: [Change to "Always combine, hide labels"]

It used to behave that way I swear, I have no idea what changed the behavior. I have been fighting a malware battle in Firefox (which continues), maybe that has something to do with it.

I have no idea what is meant by "hide labels."
