in case no body has realised, you can use firefox to browse the local (and network drives if needed as well).

the only thing is, you may have to open the file as if it were being downloaded from a website, and this is where my question comes in:

i was wondering where these files are opened when you click "Open with app". are they stored in temporary, somewhere, and does that have to be cleared out? if that is the case, is it possible clear that area when exiting firefox?

I believe those files are stored in %TEMP% (start->run %TEMP%), and automatically deleted when Firefox exits.

i was just browsing through my computer to find the cache of firefox, and i found it to be here: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile name]\Cache where [profile name] is a random string of numbers and letters.

as far as i could tell, the cache is cleared manually by going to Tools -> Options -> Privacy in FireFox. to me, this would indicate the the cache needs to be cleared manually, but maybe you are right.

if you point FireFox to about:config and type in "cache" you do get a few different preference names, but i wasn't sure what is what, so i haven't touched anything yet. if you can find a way to get FireFox to clear it's cache upon exiting (on google or something) please do share it with us.

i'm off to sleep now (it's 10 past 2 here, in the morning)

TIA
