Firefox embedded video borked

No idea what's going on here, in firefox 2.0.0.1 (win xp sp2) I get a blank where video used to be. Seems to be browser wide, as it's the same for both youtube and cnn video. I upgraded from WMP 9 to WMP 10, tried a few video-fixit extensions, made sure shockwave, flash players, and JRE up to date, cleared cache, even uninstalled FF, deleted the folder that uninstall left behind and any firefox / mozilla references in documents and settings, then reinstalling. Video works on this machine with IE6, and on another xp sp2 ff 2.0.0.1 machine I have.
 
Are you using Adblock, Flashblock or script blockers? Try diffing registry entries with the known working machine as well.

I've lost sound on Youtube in the last few days. I don't know why cos I didn't change anything 😕
 
Hmm, I've also lost sound in Far Cry and the DXDiag test doesn't get past the first sample. HL2, Q3 and DVD's have no problems 😕

Updated the sound drivers and tried reinstalling DirectX but no joy so far.
