I'll download it sooner or later, but I wasn't too impressed with the fact that beta 5 took about twice as long to load as IE7.

It opens almost instantly for me with 8 add-ons

Fantastic. I'm glad how your computer loads Firefox makes a really big difference in how fast my computer loads Firefox.

It's a fairly new computer, I'm not running anything I shouldn't be or bogged down with spyware. I have no add-ons. IE7 loads twice as fast as Firefox. Simple as that.

LOL @ people saying firefox is slow... What the hell do you have in your pc? Im using a 2002 Pentium 4 2.4ghz and it loads in 1-2 seconds  Its IMPOSSIBLE to be any faster... and the page opening time is also as fast as my cpu allows, so youre doing something wrong

Your computer or installation of FF has serious issues then, that's all I'm saying Mr Pissy Pants.

Well, it's not my computer, therefore something is wrong with Firefox. Hence, I'm in no rush to download this.

Yep.

I believe that

3.0 RC 2 (Win/Linux) = 3.0 RC 3 (Mac) = 3.0 Final (All platforms)

last I checked, 1/2 second is faster than 1 second.

On a serious note, I don't think I've ever seen firefox load that fast unless I had just exited out of it. Not that load times are slow, it's better than FF2. Overall usage feels a hell of a lot snappier than IE7. Opera... eh, I can't let go of my extensions.

I saw no change when I went from beta 3 to beta 5.

I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later, I just don't feel the need to run out and get a product I've been disappointed in thus far. I don't care if they break some meaningless record.

And for what its worth, the one from the download link I gave, and the current links on mozilla.com are the same URL, and the help/about screens from the install then, and a second computer just now, are identical.

There are articles out there that have said it loads slower than IE, but after that is speedier.

I think it needs to be downloaded from mozilla.com to count. FWIW, the site is working decently enough to get installed on several computers for me.

Honestly, if people are saying it's slow in comparison to other browsers, what does it matter? It's still slower. I'm running on a 2.08GHz w 1GB RAM. Theoretically if Opera or IE opens a lot faster, how would that help FF's case? It'd still be slower.

Two questions:

1) is there a way to install and run FF3 from a flash drive / stick, or does it have to be fully installed on the client PC?

2) Can you download FF3 and have it simply update your FF2 installation, or do you need to install to a different location and import bookmarks etc?

Didn't Pledge, but just Downloaded/Installed. Painless. Earlier today a Plugin(Foxytunes) that quit working with RC1 automagically Installed. Hopefully PicLens comes online soon and Themes start being released.

Re IE7 vs FF: FF wins hands down. IE7 doesn't load faster at all in WinXP 64 and it crashes. FF never crashes. I only use IE7 for Facebook though and given the amount of crap Facebook does, that might be why IE7 crashes on me.

A different location(just a different subdirectory) is always a good idea. When I went from FF2 to FF3, it automatically loaded all my Bookmarks, Homepages, Quick Link Tabs, the whole works. It was almost as if nothing had changed. Except, Themes, which are limited now.
