Firefox degrade over time for anyone else?

Is this a common issue? It works great for a while, then starts crashing occasionally, then it becomes more frequent. Sometimes it will just stall, and take like 30 seconds to respond to any activity.

It's only Firefox that has ever given me this problem, and not a prevalent issue with anything else I'm using.

Anyone know anything? And if there's a fix? (No idea what that fix would be.)

I like the browser a lot, but it just doesn't seem to stand up over time. My only guess is it has to do with installing over the top of a previous version, I know they don't advise that. But it seems odd that it only surfaces months later.

Have you been installing any new extensions over that time?

Sometimes one's Firefox profile gets FUBARed. This usually prevents Firefox from loading, but I suppose it's not inconceivable that it could cause only a slowdown. Deleting everything except bookmarks.html and *.js (keep settings and bookmarks) in the profile folder and reinstalling all extensions may fix things.

By a few months, do you mean you've had an install for a few months or that the same process has actually been running for a few months? :p I just wanted to check because you didn't specify :)

I imagine that if something is misconfigured that it may be piling up data somewhere and not properly removing it. Then it would gradually get slower as it takes longer to sift through bogus stuff.

The first thing I'd try is flushing the cache, then everything else like cookies and stuff. If that doesn't work a fresh install (possibly with deletion of profile as well) would be next on my list.

For the record, I have not experienced such a phenomenon myself.

Yes I have had it freezing on me, I'm thinking of going back to Mozilla or Opera now, only reason I'm using it is to see how good the latest version is,have minimal extensions etc, only the weather one installed.

I would have to say I'm not too happy with it,never had this problem with Opera or Mozilla.

I think it may be the profile thing. I'll give that a try later tonight. Running out the door now.

It's not spyware. None exists :)

It's definitely the profile thingy bersl2 mentioned. Had to delete mine a couple of times to refresh FireFox.

The profile fix did the trick. I suppose I'll just have to do this again anytime this happens. It's no big job to reinstall the two extensions I even use, either, so I can deal with it :)

I haven't used Opera recently though. Maybe I'll check it out. It's been a while.
