Firefox Crashing in Win7 64 bit

Not sure why this is happening; but from time to time Firefox "stops responding". Close it out, re-open and everything is fine. It's totally random; no particular site or content does it all the time. It's the latest version of Firefox.
Any ideas why this may be happening?

FF has been crap sonce 3.0 came out. I'm running same as you and does it also . I using IE more now as its more stable.

You don't hear that much about IE. Hope Firefox gets the bugs out soon.
I've noticed a lot of software; especially free software that is stated to "work" or is "compatible" with Windows 7; is barely that. The free version of HD Tune comes to mind; it kind of works, but crashes every time a benchmark is run.

Agreed, but 3.5 made it significantly worse. I'm on 3.6 RC and it seems usable again, but I'm running it on an SSD, so I don't know if it's actually improved.

OP, are you using any extensions to FF?
If you mean add-ons; I have AdBlock Plus 1.1.3, IE View 1.4.5, Searchbar Autosizer 1.4.5 and United States English Dictonary 4.0.0. They've been carried over, I update them every time I update Firefox.

FF 3.5 and Win7 x64. No major issues. In fact, I leave it on days at a time usually. Though lately my daughter finds pushing the darned power button to be funny recently. That means that it gets turned off on a daily basis. But still, I've had it on at one point for over a month. The add-ons I use are Adblock, Flashblock, and IE Tab.

I've been having this same problem with FF since 3.0 as well. It was a problem when I was using Windows Vista x64 and carried over when I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 and an SSD. It's the most infuriating thing on my system right now.

One thing that seems to affect it for me is the number of windows/tabs I have open. I used to have 30+ windows and 200+ tabs open at a time. I've since used TooManyTabs (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9429) to help me keep windows and tabs under control. I've been trying to keep it to a minimum but I just can't change my habit. I'm currently at around 15 windows and 80 tabs.

The freezing/pausing issue seems to happen randomly on pages (mostly when scrolling). It can last anywhere from 1 - 30 seconds. One very recent suggestion I've seen is to restart Firefox at least once a day (I leave my computer on for days/weeks at a time). So far this does seem to really help but I've only had a few days to test it.

holy shit man, you having a riot on your desktop? Imagine session manager trying to save over 200 tabs every time... Trying turning off your session manager in Firefox or TabMixPlus, and see if that helps your pausing problem.

I don't want to turn off session manager. This is the reason I can't go back to IE (not that I would want to). I use session manager to reopen those 15 windows and 80 tabs every time. These are all things I'm working on or websites that I check daily.

I did change the frequency of session manager saves back when I had 30+ windows and 200+ tabs. It certainly helps. I've kept this setting going forward since I figure it may play a role.

It's entirely fine if you want to keep it, it was just a suggestion. I was kind of in the same hole where delaying the session manager helped with stutter and micro-pauses in Youtube. The only difference is I only have 1 to 3 tabs open. Have no idea why firefox can't backup tabs without without interrupting the user :sneaky:

Maybe you want to give the latest Opera 10.10 browser a try, some users claims that it opens multiple tabs very fast. There are dramatic speed improvements in their latest version, and in benchmarks it shows promising speeds against other mainstream browsers. If I remember correctly, opera also has a built-in session manager.
