Firefox causes mouse to stutter, causes lag on webpages.

Dunno when this started happening exactly but recently (with Firefox self updates), I get serious lag when using Firefox 41.0.1. The mouse pointer stutters when moving and often isn't very responsive. Chrome works fine.

Checking task manager I get upwards of 30%+ CPU usage in Firefox just moving the mouse pointer around the Firefox window. Nothing of the sort happens with Chrome.

This is with XP SP3 and a 2.8 GHz Pentium dual core and 4 GB RAM.

Any reason why this might be happening? Is Firefox just very CPU heavy these days?

Did you turn off hardware acceleration?

How about updating video drivers?

I haven't seen that problem before but then again I haven't used XP in a long time either.

Haven't updated stuff in a very long time (workplace machine), but the 30% CPU usage with moving the cursor around was just with a near-blank Google search page. ie. www.google.com

I think with Chrome, it's more like 6% CPU usage on the same page.

Quite a few reports of Firefox 41 being unstable. It crashed on my dad's XP laptop the first time I used it even though I had all addons disabled (never gave me crash reports on previous versions). Might delete 41 an put Firefox 28 back on it.
