Firefox can't access Slashdot

I have Slashdot as my homepage but for some reason whenever I try to access it I get redirected to an internal page for my university. I did install a bunch of University specific software earlier today, but I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both them and firefox with no effect. I can hit slashdot from i.e. fine, but nada from firefox. All other sites work as normal. My hosts file is normal as well (just the single localhost line)
