Firefox and IE homepages reset after each restart/shutdown

I just got done installing WinXP Pro. Even before I had my wifi running i set the IE homepage to google. Then, I installed a firewall (comodo), downloaded and installed thinkpad updates, downloaded and installed windows updates, and installed firefox. Now, no matter what homepage i set for IE or firefox, both reset to google after restart. They dont reset if I close and reopen but do NOT restart. I don't see how it could be spyware. AVG and firewall were the first things to be installed. I just intalled Windows Defender and am currently scanning. ANy ideas? This seems like a glitch, but it is just two hours after a fresh install!
