Firefox and google don't mix

When I use google in firefox, I type something in the search box and nothing happens, except the address bar changes but I get no search results.

Works fine in IE though.

For example searching for "hello world" the address bar changes from:

http://www.google.com/

to

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source...=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=fdfef71a2e7c02d5

But no results, it just sits there no matter how many times I press the Google Search button, or no matter how long I wait.

What's going on?

What add-ons do you have installed in Firefox?
Have you tried removing and reinstalling Firefox?

Yep, looks like an add-on is messing with the search box. To confirm, try creating a new profile, disabling/uninstalling all add-ons and see what happens there.

For comparison, this is the URL that gets generated when I enter "hello world" into the search box at the top right of the firefox window:
