Firefox and Flash plugin

Morning Folks,

I am testing Firefox 1.0PR. The first thing I notced (realized) and this website uses a tremendous amount of flash-based advertising. Initially, I just ignored the repeated 'install this plugin' banner, but finally got tired of it and tried to install the required plugin.

Of course, that plugin is Flash, and while I am trying to install it the process seems to hang at, "Firefox is installing plugins ...". It stays like this for more than 30-minutes before I give up. Tried several times with same result. Anyone got any ideas? Should I try this from the other way around by not having Firefox install Flash, but Flash install itself?

Download the Flash installer from Macromedia.com, and if it doesn't find the browser, browse to the Plugins directory for Firefox when asking to install.

Also, get the Flash Click-To-View extension, anything that NEEDS flash will give you a box to click on, rather than just playing automatically

Okay, I got it installed manually. Unfortunately, the purported feature of being able to 'disable' plugins' does not work, at least in terms of disabling the Flash plugins.

So, there seems to be no method to be flashless without annoyances thrown in your face. Macromedia must die a death more horrible that the deaths of all previously living things. Die Macromedia, Die!

I don't know about you, but from the sounds of the latest posts that plugin is horrible.

Maybe you should check in the official forums for assistance.

I recommend Adblock.

Well, I installed Flashblock and testing it. Its got a slight delay going. You see the flash ad for a fraction of a second, but that's certainly better than even one second of a flash distraction. I also noticed that the flash plugins are gone (no longer listed on the plugins list).
